FISHERMEN´S CHAPPEL.

The fishermen's chapel has a central place in parties and everyday life for us at Selvær. In addition to being a house for worship services, the premises were in their time also used as a hospital for the needy among the many hundreds of fishermen who could be here during the Lofoten fishing. During the Lofoten fishing, there were services or meetings every night. To this day, the chapel is an anchor for all of us. Today, the fishermen's chapel is used for worship about every other month. Otherwise, the premises are also used for Christmas tree parties (see newspaper articles from Helgelands Blad at the very bottom), various social events, lectures and various other activities. The main room is bright with windows on both long walls, has a floor area of 54 sqm with carpeted floor. The room is beautifully decorated. The chapel is always unlocked, like our homes here on the island. The chapel has a spacious, well-equipped kitchen as well as two toilets and a spacious wardrobe. The chapel is wheelchair accessible.

There was either a service or a revival meeting every night. The sale of cocoa and prune porridge went to pay the emissary, while in addition twelve fish were given from each of the boat teams.
